About Port Dinorwic

Port Dinorwic Marina is sited on this historic port at the mouth of the Arfon Heulyn, which has provided a safe haven for ships and fishing vessels for centuries (even the Romans are thought to have visited). The port has Grade II listed status.

The dock was constructed in the 19th century to export slate from the Dinorwic Slate Quarries via a narrow gauge railway. Port Dinorwic is situated on the stretch of water between the Isle of Anglesey and the Welsh mainland known as the Menai Straits. It is just five miles from the Cities of Bangor and Caernarfon in North Wales.

The name 'Port Dinorwic' no longer appears on Maps, it is now known by its Welsh name Y Felinheli. The dock itself is also known as 'Menai Marina' or the' Vaynol Dock'

The marina provides sheltered berthing particularly in the lock basin. For this reason the basin is much favoured as a winter storage site.

The port was drdeged recently (in 2007) and can now handle craft up to 4m draft at all times.

Full repair services and a rigging shop are available, and haul-outs can be made with a 20-tonne boat hoist.
