About Rhyl

In the 19th century steam packets plied daily between Rhyl and Liverpool, and occasionally also to Beaumaris and Bangor. However it was from the coming of the railway in 1848 that Rhyl took off as a holiday destination. It was the favourite place for many rich people who brought their servants to stay for a month or more in the summer. Nearly all the working people in the town were employed in the holiday trade; there is no real history of manufacturing in the town.

The Victoria Pier was built in 1867 and the Marine Lake opened in 1895.
