About Hamble

The River Hamble at the heart of the sheltered waters of the Solent, protected from the open sea by the Isle of Wight, and benefiting from a two hour stand at high water, is an ideal base for cruising whether one's horizons are limited to the Solent and Isle of Wight, or extend further afield on the South Coast, the Channel Islands or France.

Hamble week, the winter series, spring series, Bursledon Regatta, national and world series of yacht races run by the yacht clubs on the river attract yachts from many clubs and individuals throughout the sailing world. The Warsash Sailing Club, The Royal Southern Yacht Club and the Hamble River Sailing Club combine to organise these well attended and very competitive events. Visitors are made very welcome and facilities exist alongside at Warsash and on midstream pontoons. Some visitor berths are also available within some marinas.

The entrance to the River is lit with sector lights, one at Hamble Point and another at Warsash. All the entrance piles are lit. Mariners are advised to remain within the White Sector and not to stray to the East into shoal water at the edge of the Green Sector. Vessels should keep to the starboard side of the channel. When crossing the fairway do so with care and avoid hampering other vessels.
