About Cockwood

Cockwood Harbour is a Site of Special Scietific Interest (SSSI). Cockwood is a small village next to the Exe estuary, between Starcross and Dawlish. The village is set around the land-locked harbour, where there are always plenty of boats to admire while having a quiet drink in the nearby pubs.

Access to the harbour is very limited due to tide and two low railway bridges. Only very small craft are therefore able to enter the harbour. Whilst reclamation of the marsh and the enclosure of the harbour by the railway has dramatically altered the appearance of Cockwood Harbour, its charm has not been destroyed.

The harbour is leased from Crown Estates to the Cockwood Boat Club and Harbour Commissioners.
